I am an oil painter whose work is inspired by photographs and real life.

When I begin a new painting, I analyze a model, still life or photograph and have to be intrigued by something special in the image. I look. I admire. There needs to be an emotional connection.

Then my process takes over. Often, I make a black and white drawing focused on the tonal composition. When the drawing is resolved, I begin working with paint and think about creating color harmonies and hierarchies.

I measure, draw, redraw, paint and re-paint, until an image emerges.

My final painting represents what was in front of me, but it has been transformed through my imagination, my process, and the alchemy of combining canvas and pigment.
